Cinematic language and exhibition narrative. Theoretical and methodological approach of the moving image as an exhibition tool
Ph.D. Candidate: Eleni Galani
The doctoral research focuses on the use of the moving image as an exhibition object in the space of Greek museums. The dissertation will examine how cinematic language affects the exhibition practice as well as the existence, the way of use and the individual elements of the integration of the audiovisual media in the exhibitions. The purpose of the dissertation is to conclude at a methodology for the use of the exhibition tool and to identify elements that should be taken into account for the use of moving images in exhibition activities. The audiovisuals that will be studied in the context of the research are those that are included in the exhibition and that the visitors watch during their visit.
The dissertation will be conducted by exploring four questions:
a) the museum practice of the institutions and their attitude towards the audiovisuals,
b) the audiovisuals used in the exhibitions (the kind, the content, the production, etc.),
c) the role of audiovisuals as exhibition tools and how they affect the narrative of the exhibition (their connection with other exhibits, the collection, etc.),
d) the effect of audiovisuals on visitors' experience.
